The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) participated in the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) Try-A-Skill Exhibition and Fair for Region 4 (Demerara-Mahaica), held on Tuesday at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC).

The event, organized in observance of BIT’s 115th anniversary under the theme “Skills for Success – 115 Years of Technical Excellence and Workforce Development,” focused on recognizing the impactful contributions of BIT, which operates under the purview of the Ministry of Labour, in advancing technical and vocational education, expanding skills training, and enhancing workforce readiness throughout Guyana.

The GEA exhibiting team was thrilled to engage different stakeholders on its sustainable energy operations, particularly renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives. They also had the opportunity to highlight how these operations contribute to national growth and development.

For demonstration purposes, the GEA showcased a solar home energy system unit, part of the Government of Guyana’s off-grid solar PV project aimed at expanding renewable energy access in Hinterland and riverine communities that are not connected to the utility grid.

The exhibit featured a solar panel, two 9-watt LED lamps, a 12-watt stand-alone fan, and a charge controller equipped with a USB port. To date, 37,230 homes have benefitted from renewable energy, supporting daily needs such as lighting, charging for portable devices, and cooling.

GEA and BIT have collaborated on several initiatives and continue to work closely in diverse areas to promote opportunities in renewable energy, energy efficiency, electrical wiring and system maintenance, electric mobility, and environmental sustainability. These efforts are crucial for building a resilient, low-carbon future and aim to empower communities as well as foster sustainable development for the benefit of all.

The GEA wishes BIT continued success and looks forward to future collaborations on initiatives that support nationwide progress. Congratulations!
