Georgetown April 26, 2016: On Tuesday April 26th 2016 the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) received two ‘Ground Water Data loggers’ from the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance (REETA) Project which is funded by the Government of Germany through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The equipment, which is used for measurement and recording of ground/surface water levels and temperature, will be used at different potential Hydropower sites in Guyana.

In keeping with one of its goals to provide technical training to regional establishments with the aim of aiding the development of their institutional structures and networking with other institutions, REETA also facilitated a Hydropower Engineer, Tobias Dertman from Germany (extreme left of photo), to support Guyana in its various hydropower initiatives. Stationed at GEA’s Head Office, Mr. Dertman will be in Guyana for two years where he will not only lend his expertise towards hydropower development in Guyana, but will also aid GEA’s Engineers with the aim of building local capacity in relation to Hydropower Development.

The REETA Project, headed by Dr. Andreas Taeuber, is based at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and is aimed at supporting the institutional structure for the promotion of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) in the Caribbean as well as strengthening the ability of the Energy Unit of the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Secretariat to carry out its coordinating role.
