The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) joined scores of participants from the diplomatic corps, and the public and private sectors, this morning, for the Regional Kilo Walk 2025, which officially brought the curtains down on the CARICOM Energy Month activities held throughout November.
The walk was organised by CARICOM in collaboration with the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) and the GEA, with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The regional activity provided an opportunity to emphasise the shared responsibility of regional leaders and citizens in raising awareness about the sustainable use of energy, promoting healthy lifestyles through physical activity, and educating the public on the importance of energy-conscious behaviours in transforming the Caribbean Community’s energy systems and advancing a low-carbon future that benefits all.
Additionally, the walk commenced at the CARICOM Secretariat, Greater Turkeyen, continued along the Railway Embankment to the Sheriff Street Roundabout and concluded at CARICOM.
In attendance were Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), the Honourable Mark Phillips, who holds responsibility for Guyana’s energy sector; Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr. Alfred King; Chief Executive Officer of the GEA, Dr. Mahender Sharma; Programme Manager of CARICOM’s Energy Unit, Ms. Sandra Britton; Assistant Secretary-General in the Directorate of Foreign Poicy and Community Relations for CARICOM, Ms. Elizabeth Solomon; and other national and regional officials and representatives.
