In commemoration of Energy Week 2012, the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) undertook an entire week of events celebrated November 11-17, 2012. Energy Week not only serves to fulfill part of the mandate of the GEA by disseminating information essential to improving public awareness on sustainable energy, conservation and overall efficiency, but acts as a uniting force amongst other Caricom member states on the shared goal of Energy Development.

On November 16, 2012, the GEA hosted the First Guyana Energy Forum at the Guyana International Convention Centre. Set against the theme, ‘Sustainable Energy: Powering a Green Economy’, the hosting of an Energy Forum was considered pertinent in light of continuous global and local developments in the Energy Sector.

The Energy Forum allowed stakeholders from both the public and private sector to engage in open discussion on the Energy Sector, particularly highlighting individual works and involvement to promulgate and develop the goal of a Green Economy. The Forum invited concise presentations from Ministries and other organisations such as UNDP and IDB.

Gleaned from such a forum, it was expected that all stakeholders in the Energy Sector would become aware of the current works, future goals and strategies of other stakeholders in energy related areas as well as develop further understanding of energy related projects in recognition of the benefits of energy efficiency, conservation and alternative sources of energy towards  the development of a green economy.

As the first of its kind, the GEA will make the Guyana Energy Forum an annual feature in an effort to continue dialogue.
