(Georgetown, March 08, 2024) – On this occasion of International Womenโ€™s Day, the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) recognizes the contributions, accomplishments and progress of the phenomenal and hard-working women in its workforce who are helping the Agency to spark change in renewable energy transition, climate change mitigation and low-carbon development. The theme for this yearโ€™s IWD observance, โ€˜Invest in Women: Accelerate Progressโ€™, aptly embodies gender equality and diversity in its leadership, decision-making and learning spaces practiced at the GEA.

Presently, women constitute 43 per cent of the GEAโ€™s workforce: The Energy and Energy Statistics Division, Legal and Licensing Division and Human Resources and Administrative Division are all led and supervised by women. Women are also the principal decision-makers in their respective capacities in areas that span fuel marking, licensing and regulations, legal affairs, finance, economics, public communications, data and project management, environmental safety and sanitation, laboratory analysis, investigation, inspection and inquiry and procurement and logistics, to name but a few. In addition to embracing the immeasurable contributions of these women, the GEA continues to steadily invest in educational and skills training, awareness and networking opportunities for women.

Today serves as a powerful reminder for the Agency to continue celebrating its women in energy and investing in them to accelerate their growth and progress.
