Guyana Energy Forum

‘Punter’ fined 2.4 Million Dollars for Fuel Smuggling

Hot on the heels of its seventeenth (17th ) conviction, the Guyana Energy Agency, represented by in house prosecutor Shivani Balcharan, secured three more convictions on July 5, 2012 in the Essequibo Magisterial District against Mohan Muniram, otherwise known as ‘Punter’.

16 Convictions for illegal fuel as GEA wraps up another...

 

The Guyana Energy Agency remains relentless in its efforts to curb fuel smuggling. Standing firm on its intolerance for such illegal trade, the GEA, represented by special prosecutor Gino Persaud, secured another conviction against Kimone Gonsalves of Grant Trial, Pomeroon River. The defendant was found guilty of being in possession of fifty (50) gallons of illegal petroleum contrary to the Guyana Energy Act.

Press Release - May 17, 2012

Fuel Marking Programme yields more success.

The Guyana Energy Agency, represented by special prosecutor Gino Persaud, secured yet another success in the fight against fuel smuggling with a conviction against Sukdio Rampersaud of Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast on March 30, 2012. The defendant was found guilty of being in possession of illegal petroleum and storing illegal petroleum contrary to the Guyana Energy Agency Act.

Press Release - March 09, 2012

Rudolph Ferreira of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo on March 2, 2012 pleaded guilty to the offence of Transporting Petroleum in Bulk Quantity without a Licence, contrary to the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Regulations 2004 enacted under the Guyana Energy Agency Act 1997. The defendant had been intercepted on June 11, 2011 while transporting a quantity of diesel in excess of 2000 litres in a boat in the Buckhall area.
